Experience the Authentic Kolkata Pantua – Deep-Fried, Syrupy, and Unforgettably Soft
If you are looking for the soul of a traditional Bengali sweet shop, you will find it in the Pantua. Often compared to the Gulab Jamun by those outside Bengal, the Pantua is a distinct masterpiece that stands on its own. While they may look similar, the secret of the Pantua lies in its foundation: Fresh Chhena (artisanal cottage cheese). This gives it a slightly firmer bite, a richer texture, and a flavour profile that is uniquely “Kolkata.”
Our Pantuas are crafted by heirloom Moira (sweet artisans) who have perfected the art of the “dark fry.” We bring these Traditional Bengali Sweets directly from our kitchens in Kolkata to all over India, ensuring that no matter where you are, the authentic taste of a Bengali afternoon is just a bite away.
What makes our delicious sweets made in Kolkata so special? It’s the meticulous process that goes into every single piece:
The Chhena Connection: Unlike other variations made primarily with flour or milk powder, the Pantua is built on a base of hand-kneaded, fresh Chhena mixed with a touch of Khoya. This creates a dense yet soft and juicy interior.
The Caramelised Crust: The Pantuas are slow-fried in high-quality ghee or oil until they reach a beautiful, deep mahogany color. This frying process creates a thin, caramelized outer layer that holds the syrup perfectly.
Infused with Cardamom: Once fried, they are submerged in a light, warm sugar syrup scented with Green Cardamom. They soak until they are heavy with sweetness, yet light enough to melt in your mouth.
A Subtle Distinction: To be a helpful thought partner, it’s worth noting that while Pantua and Gulab Jamun are cousins, the use of Chhena in Pantua provides a more “refined dairy” taste and a slightly more textured interior compared to the sponge-like Gulab Jamun.
